Type Locality and Naming

The naming section is located at Qinglongchang in Yingjing County, Sichuan, and the reference section is located at Baojiangqiao, Chengdu, Sichuan. Named by the Compilation Team of the Regional Geology of Sichuan Province in 1991.

Synonym: Gu Xueda et al. (1997) from the Sichuan Bureau Geology and Resource suggested that Qinglongchang Formation is a synonym of Liangshuijing Fm.


Lithology and Thickness

Gravel bed, semi-cemented, containing sandstone lenses, with sporopollen. This formation is composed all of half-consolidated gravel beds. The thickness is 8 m. The deposition is fluvial facies.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The formation unconformably overlies on the purplish red silty claystone of the Cretaceous Jiaguan Fm. Regionally, next older unit is the conglomerates of the Liangshuijian Fm.

Upper contact

Quaternary.

Regional extent

Its distribution is constricted in central part of Sichuan Province, including Baojiangqiao of Chengdu, Fuxing of Pengshan, and Jiandingfeng in its vicinity 1.5 km south Qinglongchang of Yingjing.

Fossils

The formation has produced sporopollen fossils from the sections of Qinglongchang and Jiandingfeng, Xingjing.


Age 

Its age has been suggested about Miocene or Pliocene through the analysis and identification of sporopollen at the Qinglongchang section, Xingjing, Sichuan.
